South Africa’s Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) for Nigerian passport holders is here to stay. It’s what Nigerians need right now to make the difficult process of applying for a South African e-visa through the EPS portal easier.
What Is the South African ETA?
First, let me explain what an ETA means.
An ETA is a pre-travel authorisation, not a visa or a guarantee of entry. At the port of entry, you still need to pass through border control and meet immigration requirements. For South Africa, you may be asked a few questions before you’re allowed to enter, such as how you’ll support yourself, your flight and hotel bookings, and other immigration-related questions deemed necessary at the time.
An ETA (Electronic Travel Authorisation) is a digital travel permission required for visa-exempt foreign nationals who want to visit or transit through certain countries.
South Africa’s Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) system was initially launched and piloted for China, India, Indonesia, and Mexico. As time passed, the authorities saw the need to include other countries, and Nigeria was eventually added.
When I applied for mine, I was given a one-year South African ETA, which means it is valid for one year. However, the permitted duration of stay is 90 days. See my Approved South Africa ETA below:
